monsters vs aliens 3D (2009)

dreamworks animated pictures first fully fledged 3D film is largely a success, although the pacing lags and the therefore the story struggles to keep entertaining throughout. the 3D element works a treat, although for the third time in a row a picture has been tarnished somewhat by the absolutely incredible trailer for disney pixars up proceeded it. for the first time in the short lifespan of this new fangled 3D fad a 3D ''moment'' has genuinely shocked me. the scene involving the ball at the beginning actually made me jump, something i thought i was far too world weary for.

in terms of characters monsters vs aliens succeeded in doing pretty much the impossible, by making both reese witherspoon and seth rogen bearable. will arnet, best known to this viewer as G.O.B from arrested development impressed most of all, with a great turn from hugh laurie too.

as family fare goes monsters vs aliens works really well, although the midsection may prove too much of a chore for some. its definitely worth seeing theatrically in 3D, but im not sure how valuable its replayability will be.
